Well it's official Addison is getting a helmet, much to Kelby's dismay. We are both concerned about the reactions we are going to get and how we are going to react to them! On Tuesday we went to Fit-Well and she was casted. The batteries died on my camera so the pictures are from Fit-well. When they called to schedule the appointment they said for me to wear old clothes that I wouldn't care if plaster got on. They had me undress Addison completely (except her diaper) and put this little towel over her head then a fabric bonnet. He traced her ears then explained that he would put a piece of plaster over the top of her head, and another around the back then put Vaseline on her forehead and on the front of the first piece of plaster then place a piece of plaster on her forehead. The last step was to put a strip of plaster around the back of her head and neck while that piece was drying she could not move her head from side to side. They said she would be fine during the most part but while they put on the last piece she would get upset because it is a survival mechanism for babies to be able to move their head. Then after it was all set up they would remove the forehead piece and lift the back piece off. She did just as he said she could have cared less then when the last strip was on she got very upset. The entire casting took only a few minutes. We will go back in 2 weeks to have a fitting with the actual helmet. Hooray for helmets!

Poor little doll! She looks like such a trooper. How long will hse have to wear the helmet?
Helmets ROCK! Especially when your as adorable as Addi and no one will even notice past her beautiful smile! Who cares what others say, its best for her so they can keep it to themselves (I know I'm a little over protective of my niece but people need to shush!) Love ya!
She is so cute! Looks like she is so well behaved too! Her smile and chubby cheeks are so cute!
your trip looked like fun. does she have to wear the helmet 24/7? she is such a cute happy little thing!
oh she looks cute no matter what. and it didn't look like she cried either. hope everything goes okay from here on out. and it looks like your trip was fun.
My friend Jessica Dahlquist wanted me to comment on your blog because we also went through the helmet thing! My daughter is now 2 1/2, but when she was 7 months she got a helmet (also from Fit-well) and had it on until she was 13 months. The fitting wasn't so much fun, but really, after you get the helmet it's not so bad! I had a hard time getting used to taking it off and on, but once it was on she never really cared. I haven't ever seen any other companies out there that use the clear helmets like Fit-Well, but I think they are the best! It worked really well on our daughter's head and we're SOOO glad that we did it! She also had torticollis, so we did PT for her neck along with the helmet. Now her head looks good and her neck is straight. I think it's so good that you are getting started as early as you are because it probably won't take as long to fix as it did for us. We knew her head was bad for awhile, and our doctor just kept saying it was fine. After a couple months he finally referred us to Dr. Schmelzer, who said it was bad enough to need the helmet. I loved all the Fit-Well people and it was totally worth it for us! I hope everything goes as well for you guys as it did for us! Don't worry either, people don't notice it that much and no one ever really said anything. The one thing that I look back and remember anyone saying is an old lady at the mall commented something like she thought it was such a good idea for her to have a helmet while she was in the stroller... like she thought it was for her safety! Silly old lady! Really though, most people assumed that she had just had surgery on her head. Time goes quickly though! Anyway, good luck to you and if you have any questions, feel free to ask! You're little girl is so cute!!!
